Teachers of the School of Marxism Participated in the Launching Ceremony of  Pictures and Books Exhibition about the “Role Model of the Times” Academician YangShi’eand theTheme Party Day Activities

To deeply study and promote the advanced deeds of Academician Yang Shi’e, who was grantedthe title“Role Model of the Times”, and to actively guide teachers and staff to align with advanced examples, consciously adhering to the original aspiration and mission of“cultivating talents for the Party and the country,”on October 30th, some representative party member teachers fromtheschool of Marxism participated in the launch ceremony of the exhibition pictures books about Academician Yang Shi’e. This event, simultaneously served as a themed party day activity, was organized by six grassroots party organizations at the library.

The event was presided over by Zhao Zhen, the Secretary of the Library Party Committee. All participants first observed a moment of silence in honor of the“Role Model of the Times” Academician Yang Shi’e, to express their deep respect and remembrance.

Wan Xudong, the Secretary of the Institute of Underwater Acoustic Engineering Party Committee, shared on-site the educational philosophy and patriotic devotion of Academician Yang Shi’e, which emphasizes“strive to learn how to be a person, how to do things, and how to pursue scholarship, and to do things for the advancement of China’s shipbuilding industry, maritime endeavors, and national defense”. Wan also encouraged participants to contribute the strength of HEU for constructing an education-strong nation, a science and technology-strong nation, and a talent-strong nation.

Lu Kaidong, the Secretary of the Propaganda and United Front Department Party Branch, recounted several stories such as“Being Dispatched to Establish Harbin Military Engineering Institute” “Being a 90-Year-Old Academician Who Stands Throughout Lectures”, and“Being a Lifelong Listener of the Sea for the Country”. These stories vividly illustrated how Academician Yang closely aligned his personal ideals with the needs of the country, pursued rigorous scholarship and dedicated research, and maintained lofty aspirations while focusing on practical work, demonstrating his great sentiment, high-mindedness, and genuine commitment.

Yang Zhen, the Standing Deputy Secretary of the school of Marxism Party Committee, delivered remarks at the event. Yang introduced the advanced deeds of Academician Yang, who dedicated his life to teaching and washonored with the title such “National Model Educator”, which is the highest honor for a teacher. Yang pointed out that the elderly academician set an example through his words and actions, dedicating his life to exploring the ocean for the country. Even at over ninety years old, he insisted on standing throughout his lectures. Academician Yang is a mobile“ideological and political education class”. Deputy Secretary Yang expressed hope that faculty and students would carry forward the“spirit of educators,”striving to be exemplary teachers.

Under the leadership of Cheng Jianhua, the Secretary of the Graduate School Party Branch, all participants reaffirmed their oath of joining the Party. Facing the party flag, they solemnly swore, expressing their loyalty to the Party and their firm belief in the communist cause. They articulated their resolve to follow in the footsteps of Academician Yang, the model for successors at Harbin Military Engineering Institute, and to continue advancing with determination along the path of loyalty.

A book-gifting ceremony was held on-site, during which each student party member in attendance received a copy ofHeart Voices: Growth Insights from“Role Model of the Times” Academician Yang Shi’e, authored and personally signed by Tang Xiaowei, a teacher from the school of Marxism. Tang encouraged the students to study diligently, hone their skills, move towards the light, become a source of light themselves, and shoulder the important task of building a strong nation with resolve.

Teacher Wei Jia from the Archives Party Branch carefully presented a micro-party lesson titledThe Eternal Dream of Nation and Passion of Ocean Exploration: The Legacy of“Role Model of the Times” Academician Yang’s Family Traditions. This presentation resonated strongly with the audience, leaving a profound red imprint in their hearts.

Finally, Professor Zhang Haigang, who is the Deputy Secretary of the Institute of Underwater Acoustic Engineering Party Committee, Vice Dean, and a core member of Academician Yang’s team, served as the keynote speaker, guided all participants through a joint tour of the pictures and books exhibition. This exhibition carefully selected over 140 precious photos from various periods of Yang’s life and showed nearly 1,000 related books. The exhibition was a carefully crafted major ideological and political education course by six grassroots party organizations, using advanced deeds and exemplary figures close at hand to educate teachers and students. The event served not only as a spiritual cleansing but also as a meaningful ideological education, guiding everyone to emulate Academician Yang Shi’e by firmly establishing the aspiration to serve the country through science and technology, upholding the value pursuit of the“three foremost”, and making new and greater contributions to the construction of a strong nation and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation!

The theme activity“Learning from the“Role Model of the Times” Academician Yang Shi’e” has generated enthusiastic responses among the broad masses of teachers and students. Many participants have expressed their determination to take Academician Yang as a role model, continuously strengthen their ideals and beliefs, remember their original aspirations and missions, courageously take on responsibilities, and contribute their own strength to realizing the Chinese Dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
