The Academic Symposium on the Northeast United Resistance Army and Its Resistance Campaign, Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese Peoples War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, was held at Harbin Engineering University

                                  

The Academic Symposium on the Northeast United Resistance Army and Its Resistance Campaign, Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, was solemnly convened at the Vip Meeting Room on the 4th Floor of Qihang Activity Center, Harbin Engineering University on June 22, 2025. Co-organized by the School of Marxism, Harbin Engineering University, the event was undertaken by the Heilongjiang Provincial Master Teacher Studio for Integrating the Spirit of the Northeast United Resistance Army into Ideological and Political Theory Teaching and the University’s Center for World Socialism Studies.

                                                                                         

Yang Zhen, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Marxism at Harbin Engineering University, attended and addressed the opening ceremony, which was presided over by Jin Lulu, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice Dean of the School.

At the ceremony, Yang Zhen extended heartfelt gratitude and a warm welcome to all participants on behalf of the School. He reviewed the university’s revolutionary legacy as the successor to the Harbin Military Engineering Institute, emphasizing that the Spirit of the Northeast United Resistance Army—an invaluable spiritual asset of the Chinese nation—alongside the fine traditions of the Harbin Institute of Military Engineering, constitutes essential resources for the university’s ideological and political education. Yang further highlighted the School’s achievements in disciplinary development and the reform of ideological and political courses, underscoring that the symposium provides an academic exchange platform. He urged scholars to deepen research on the history and spirit of the Northeast United Resistance Army, encouraging them to contribute intellectual strength for carrying forward the revolutionary legacy and advancing high-quality development in Heilongjiang Province.

                                                        

Following the opening ceremony, the symposium proceeded to the plenary sessions, structured in two phases. The first session was chaired by Professor Wang Linping, Doctoral Supervisor at the School of Marxism, Harbin Engineering University. Wang Xiliang, Grade-II Research Professor at the Heilongjiang Provincial Academy of Social Sciences and Honorary President of the Heilongjiang Provincial Research Association on the History of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, delivered a report titled The Manchurian-Mongolian Factor in Modern Japan’s National Strategy: A Study on the Compelling Necessity of the September 18th Incident.

Professor Li Shujuan of the School of History and Culture at Harbin Normal University, a Leading Talent of the National High-Level Talents Special Support Plan, delivered a report titled The CPC-Led Struggle Against Collective Settlements’”.

Gao Xiaoyan, Grade-II Research Professor and Former Deputy Director of the Institute of History at the Heilongjiang Provincial Academy of Social Sciences, delivered a report titled Research on Legacy Issues of Chemical Warfare by the Japanese Invading Forces in China.

The second plenary session was chaired by Xu Zhongyuan, Vice Dean of the School of Marxism at Harbin Engineering University. Yun Zhanjun, Director of the Editorial and Research Department at the Northeast Martyrs’ Memorial Hall and Standing Council Member of the Heilongjiang Provincial Research Association on the History of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, delivered a report titled The Nexus Between Research on Northeast Resistance War History and Constructing a Fourteen-Year Discursive Framework of the War of Resistance. Huang Jinhua, Tenured Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at Harbin Institute of Technology, presented on The Pioneering Role of the Northeast United Front in the War of Resistance: Research Approaches. Li Zhixin, Chief Editor of the General Editorial Office at Heilongjiang People’s Publishing House (Senior Editor of Historical Works on the Northeast United Resistance Army), addressed Pedagogical Significance and Exemplary Value of Party Building in the Northeast United Resistance Army. Zhang Lei, Associate Professor at the School of Marxism of Heilongjiang University and Reserve Leading Scholar in CPC History and Party Building Studies, shared Critical Reflections on Delving into Historical Archives of the Northeast United Resistance Army

At the closing ceremony, Li Shihui, Head of the Heilongjiang Provincial Master Teacher Studio for Integrating the Spirit of the Northeast United Resistance Army into Ideological and Political Theory Courses and Director of the Center for World Socialism Studies at Harbin Engineering University, delivered the concluding remarks. He stated that as Heilongjiang Province’s inaugural national academic conference commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory in the War of Resistance, this symposium would generate considerable positive impact and serve as an impetus for progress in the province’s commemorative activities and related research endeavors.

The symposium brought together over 80 participants, including scholars and experts from the Heilongjiang Provincial Academy of Social Sciences, Harbin Normal University, Northeast Martyrs’ Memorial Hall, Harbin Institute of Technology, Heilongjiang People’s Publishing House, and Heilongjiang University; faculty representatives of Ideological and Political Theory courses from universities in Heilongjiang’s Sixth Education District; curator delegates from the Northeast Martyrs’ Memorial Hall and the Museum of Evidence of War Crimes by Japanese Invading Force Unit 731; academic representatives from Harbin University of Science and Technology’s School of Marxism; 13 doctoral candidates from Peking University, Renmin University of China, Fudan University, Central China Normal University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Dalian University of Technology, and Jilin University (attendees of Harbin Engineering University’s 2025 Xinghai Forum); graduate student delegates from Harbin Institute of Technology’s School of Marxism; student representatives of Harbin Engineering University’s Red Torch Society; and faculty and student delegates from four disciplinary divisions of Harbin Engineering University’s School of Marxism.
